Benny Higgins

Chairman

Benny joined Standard Life in 1983 as an actuarial student, later becoming a member of the Standard Life Group Executive Committee in 1996.  Between 1997-2005, he was the Chief Executive of Retail Banking at RBS, during which time he oversaw the successful integration of NatWest Retail Banking, one of the largest hostile takeovers ever undertaken in banking.  He became Chief Executive, Retail, HBOS in 2006 before joining Tesco Bank as Chief Executive in 2008, a position he held until February 2018.

In September 2017, the Scottish Government approached Benny to develop an implementation plan for the creation of a Scottish National Investment Bank, subsequently appointed as Strategic Adviser to the First Minister on the building of the Scottish National Investment Bank and Chairman of Scottish Government’s Advisory Group on Economic Recovery post COVID19.

Benny holds various Executive/Chairman positions, including Executive Chairman of the Buccleuch Group; Chairman of the National Galleries of Scotland; Chairman of Sistema Scotland and Chairman of Forster Chase Advisory Limited.

Benny is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.  He holds various Honorary positions, including Honorary Professor at the University of Glasgow, Honorary Professor at Edinburgh University and Visiting Professor at Strathclyde University.

Brendan is a serial entrepreneur, with investments in Private Equity, Property, Education and Sport.

He began his career in finance with Barclays PLC and has 40 years of experience in leading businesses. Brendan is also a member of the Young Presidents Organisation of Entrepreneurs.

He is Chairman of Cole Waterhouse and Real Estate Group, which has focused on Passive Housing since 2018, and Businesswise Solutions Ltd, which is an Energy Management business.

Brendan is also the Founder and Chairman of the University Campus of Football Business (UCFB) and Global Institute of Sports (GIS). The University has Campuses at Wembley Stadium, London, the Etihad Stadium, Manchester, and study hubs in several international destinations.

Brendan has also served as a Director of English Premier League football club Burnley FC and Orlando City FC between the years of 2006 – 2020.

Simon has worked within the family business since leaving school, where he studied in Glasgow and Spain.

He then fully committed his time to rejuvenating the family’s interest in the renewable energy sector by co-founding Hy2Go and has been instrumental in all aspects of the project, from acquiring the land, to the name and branding itself. 



Simon’s focus has been to build strategic relationships with technical advisors and Hy2Go’s target market. His objective is to have 100MW of electrolysis in operation by 2030 contributing to a zero emission solution to the UK and beyond.

Simon has worked within the family business since leaving school, where he studied in Glasgow and Spain. 



After spending five years pursuing a career within the music industry, he traded ‘securities’ for a period of two years. He then fully committed his time to rejuvenating the family’s interest in the renewable energy sector by co-founding Hy2Go and has been instrumental in all aspects of the project, from acquiring the land, to the name and branding itself.

Clive has been in the financial market for some 30 years, having previously held positions at Lloyds Bank, Aviva Investors and Dawnay Day Property Finance Ltd, where he headed up the Underwriting Team, placing into the market circa £1bn of loan facilities each year.

He specialised in the structuring of complex acquisitions on behalf of property companies, family trusts and high net-worth private individuals throughout the UK and Western Europe.

He has established a reputation for delivering high levels of personal and professional service and maintains enviable relationships within the ‘commercial/business’ lending markets. 



Clive has been working with the Coakley Family for over 10 years, sharing their passion for the renewable sector and is excited to be part of the next fuel generation and providing a greener future.

Clive has been working with the Coakley Family for over 10 years, sharing their passion for the renewable sector and is excited to be part of the next fuel generation and providing a greener future.

Mark has been invited to work alongside the team at HY2GO, bringing almost 40 years of construction experience on site and within the design office covering both the Building and Civil Engineering sectors.

Following University, Mark started his career as a setting out engineer, working up through the various roles to Project Management and finally becoming an Engineering Manager.

This role with its responsibilities is the technical hub for multi disciplined schemes, bringing together all the various parties. This process starts at the design stage, with an understanding of all the different components, interlocking them to ensure a logical sequence for the site construction, ensuring a successful project.

Projects over the years have included Major Railway Stations, The Northern Power House Network Rail Electrification upgrade, Gas Powered Stations, Motorways, Roads, Bridges (notably the Dee Crossing), Tunnelling, and office and house building schemes.

Mark’s goal as part of the team during this exciting time within the Energy Industry is the production of Green Hydrogen with HY2GO.
